Untightened Vestomy Prototype: The purpose of the whole system is to support the weight around the user's waist area, therefore, minimizing the impact of movement on the durability of the connection between the skin barrier and the belt.

Press-and-Twist Rotating Piece: The skin barrier remains mostly the same as an average ostomy pouch, but the press-and-twist cap provides a secure connection, significantly decreasing the chances of an unintentional removal.

Press-and-Twist Cap: This cap allows for the user to undergo a series of physically taxing activities without having to worry about their ostomy pouch or belt falling off.

Funnel: The stool is then sent through a 3D-printed funnel to arrive at the belt, which is separated into two parts; the disposable inner layer and the reusable outer layers.
6 / 7

Ostomy Belt: The inner layer is where the stool is evenly distributed around the waist, while the outer layer exists to protect the inner layer and make it resemble an actual belt. While ostomy belts are already fairly popular, there was none as far as we found that had the belt itself as the stool storage to disburse the weight..

Tightened Vestomy Prototype: Lastly, the vest goes around the user's shoulders and anchors the belt at various points on the torso. This allows for less movement of the system as the user goes about their day, allowing for sturdiness and long-term comfortability.

Summary

Vestomy is the heavy-duty ostomy belt built for durability. It allows for its users to undergo daily physical activity without having the need to worry about the longevity or comfortability of their ostomy belt.

The secure connection provided by our press-and-twist mechanism as well as the security from the vest allow for greater security while the storage across the belt allows for a longer lifespan.

Case Study

The case study assigned to our team described a man who has encountered numerous troubles with his ostomy pouch disconnecting during his physically taxing job or during his daily physical activity. Our team was tasked to design a colostomy bag that provides a durable connection between the drainable pouch and the skin barrier. In addition, the device should maintain comfortability for long periods of physical activity. We wanted the patient/user to be as comfortable as possible in their environment and not to feel limited by their ostomy.
